Voice Thread is a tool that allows you to post video, pictures, documents and other materials that students can scroll through and comment on. It is a great way to have out of class discussions that are more interactive than a regular discussion board post. It is probably one of the better visual tools for discussion. I have used it in both my on ground and online classes and students seem to enjoy them. Students can post via text, audio, or video. I always post the question and introduction as a video in the hopes to encourage students to do the same and it provides a more 'real' presence in an online class.
For the Ipad, there is a Voice Thread app that actually works quite well. You can view all of your Voice Threads directly on the ipad as well as student comments. What is nice compared to some apps that only let you view content is that this app allows you to create Voice Threads directly from the iPad if you want. I have enjoyed viewing my Voice Threads on the iPad over the computer. Both the account to create and comment on Voice Threads is free as well as the app.
Here is an example below of a Voice Thread I have created.
Claire,
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this information about Voicethread. It is good to hear that the iPad app is as robust as the computer application. VT is a wonderful tool for creating engaging discussions and perhaps your presentation here will encourage greater use. The fact that it is free is amazing!
