Gradebook Pro App

I am so excited and just downloaded the Gradebook Pro App. How do I export my grades from D2L as a CSV file so I can upload this to DropBox and eventually download this to Gradebook. pro?

This may be possible to set up on the iPad, but I haven't tried it, so I'm going to assume that you're using a computer for the setup...

First off, do you have your roster in GBP yet? if not, that's going to be your first step, but the process is pretty much the same. Make sure that you've linked GradeBook Pro to your Dropbox account. That will create the appropriate folders in Dropbox that GBP needs.

Go to the "Gradebook" in D2L, and if you're not already in "Enter Grades", click that in the left hand column. Now click on the "export grades" link. For this first go around, you're basically downloading the roster, not the grades, so you want to check the following boxes: last name, first name, and email. D2L will automatically include the student ID. Now click on "export to CSV". It will prepare your file for download, then you tell it to download to your computer. Open that file in Excel, and add a blank column between "first name" and "email". This is because GBP wants a "middle name", and D2L doesn't include that. Remove the first row at the top of the spreadsheet (this has the column names), but do NOT remove the final column that has the # symbol... GBP needs that to fill in the "notes" column. Save the file (as a CSV if Excel asks) to the DropBox>GradeBook Pro>Import>Rosters folder. Feel free to change the name of the file, since it's going to have a totally unusable filename from D2L. Now, navigate to that file in Dropbox, and change the extension from ".csv" to ".gbr" (stands for "grade book roster").

Now you're ready to get that roster into GBP... from the iPad, open GBP. Click on the + near where it says "class list". This will allow you to create a class in GBP. fill in the information, and save it. Select your new class, and at the bottom of the screen, select "Data". Choose "Download Roster Import Files", then click "done". Click "Manage", then "roster", then "import", and select the file from the list. If all went according to plan, you should have all of your students neatly listed in the GBP class.

To import grades, it's the same basic process... the only difference is the boxes you check in D2L... you want the following: last name, first name, and the one grade item you want to import. When you save the file to Dropbox, put it into the Grades folder rather than the Rosters one, and change the file extension to ".gbs" (grade book score").

    I hope this helps....
